What exactly is Botox? Botox is the name of a pharmaceutical brand. This product contains a toxin of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. This toxin has therapeutic and aesthetic uses, including temporary paralysis of a muscle. Among the therapeutic uses of Botox are the prevention of migraine headaches and excessive sweating. The cosmetic application of Botox includes reducing the dynamic lines and wrinkles of the face. Dynamic wrinkles include wrinkles caused by muscle contraction (such as forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow's feet). In contrast to dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles (such as nasolabial folds or laugh lines) have nothing to do with muscle contraction and, of course, Clostridium botulinum toxin will not affect them.
