What about PRP treatment?

Almost everyone likes a beautiful and flawless appearance, but there are many people who like the way they use to improve their appearance to be completely natural and also not have any significant side effects.

I can confidently say that there is such a way: the procedure! The injectable procedure that is injectable substance is obtained from the person's own blood.

History of PRP

In 1970, PRP was first developed to separate and transfer platelets to patients who neede it, and it quickly became popular for this purpose. About 10 years later, it was used in oral and maxillofacial surgeries because binding platelets to each other involved in the blood clotting process. Some time later, PRP was used to treat orthopedic and musculoskeletal problems, because some tissues, including cartilage, ligaments and tendons, have poor blood circulation, and as a result, repair of these tissues can be delayed and incomplete. PRP delivers platelet growth factors to these tissues to a great extent and improves the speed and quality of tissue repair. Other applications of PRP that have been discovered have the effect of increasing the speed and improving the quality of healing of chronic wounds, including diabetic wounds and bed sores. The use of PRP to rejuvenate the face and strengthen the hair, as well as the use of this product in cases of infertility is one of the newest applications of this magical solution.

What is PRP?

The term PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. This fluid is often yellow and cloudy and consists of plasma and platelets. So let's look at plasma and platelets and learn more about them.

Your blood has different components:

  • Plasma - An almost yellow, clear liquid that contains a variety of proteins.
  • Platelets - Nuclear cells that are involved in causing blood to clot and repair body tissues.
  • White Cells - Responsible for protecting the body against foreign agents.
  • Red Cells - The function of these cells is to deliver oxygen to the body's tissues.

Platelets contain growth factors that, when released into tissues, induce the process of cell regeneration and tissue repair. Platelets need to be immersed in a liquid so that we can deliver them to the desired tissue. This fluid is the plasma that facilitates the transport of platelets and is also a nutrient for them.

How is PRP obtained?

PRP is obtained from blood, so the doctor first takes some blood from the patient's arm. The amount of blood needed to prepare PRP is about 10 to 30 ml. This is about the same amount or a little more blood taken in the lab.

The blood is then placed in a centrifuge. The centrifugal force causes the blood to split into two parts, (1) the plasma containing the platelets (2) the other blood components.

This platelet -containing is the same as plasma , and because its platelet concentration is higher than whole blood, it is called PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Plasma typically contains 40 to 50 percent of the total blood volume, so the platelet concentration in the resulting plasma is about twice that of whole blood. If necessary, the doctor can increase the platelet concentration in PRP by centrifuging the obtained PRP. This PRP, which is more than twice the concentration of blood, is called "super PRP".

The strength of PRP depends on several factors:

1. volume of blood is drawn - Doctor can extract more platelets from more blood valume.

2. Number of platelets in patient's blood - The normal number of platelets in a patient's blood can vary from 150,000 to 450,000 per microliter of blood.

3. The strength of each platelet - This depends on the amount of platelet growth factors and varies from person to person.

4. Equipment used - This includes the use of a suitable centrifuge and a proper PRP kit, etc.

5. Physician experience and expertise - Physician experience and expertise makes the PRP obtained have a higher quality.

As it is obvious, by choosing a reputable center and an experienced doctor, the quality of obtained PRP and the correctness of PRP method can be ensured.

The PRP preparation method mentioned above is the most common method of preparation of this product. There are other techniques for producing PRP from blood that a doctor can use depending on the condition and needs.

How to use and the benefits of PRP on the skin and hair

PRP may be delivered to the target tissue in a variety of ways. In the case of skin and hair, the main method of using PRP is to inject this product into the skin. These injections are done by inserting fine needles into the skin. These injections are performed at a distance of 0.5 to 1 cm from each other. In this method, PRP solution is injected directly into the skin to a depth of 1 to 4 mm. Another way to use PRP is to use this product in conjunction with the microneedling method. In the microneedling method, the microneedles embedded on the dermaroller or dermapen device create delicate pores on the skin. PRP is then poured on the skin at the same time to be absorbed topically.

Injecting PRP into the skin, including the scalp and the skin of other parts of the body, causes large amounts of platelet growth factors to enter the target areas. These growth factors with the following mechanisms cause skin rejuvenation and increase growth and improve hair quality:

  • Increased blood flow to the tissues
  • Invocation of repair cells from surrounding tissues and other parts of the body
  • Stimulation of target tissue stem cells to differentiate into needed cells in the tissue
  • Stimulation of target tissue cells to produce more and better quality proteins and other products such as: collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, hair and ...

Complications and side effects of PRP

Because PRP is obtained from a person's own blood, it does not have serious side effects, especially those associated with injecting a foreign substance into the body. Mild and transient side effects of PRP include mild pain, swelling, redness, and possible bruising at the injection site. These side effects are minimized with the use of numbing creams and ice packs.

PRP cost

Each PRP treatment session in the United States and Europe costs about $ 500 to $ 1,000. In Iran, the cost of performing PRP method is 10% of the mentioned amount. The cost of PRP varies depending on the service provider center and its geographical location, equipment used and the experience and expertise of the physician. Many insurance companies do not cover the costs of PRP, however, some insurance companies have recently covered the cost of PRP for medical (non cosmetic) purposes. In any case, contact your insurance company for more information on this issue.
