What is the cause of drooping eyebrows and is there a cure for it?
Falling eyebrows
Eyebrow loss has various causes, sometimes people experience eyebrow loss at the same time as hair loss, in which case the cause of eyebrow loss is probably common with scalp hair and is usually related to metabolism and body biochemistry.
But sometimes people without hair loss just suffer from eyebrow loss, which we will examine the causes below:
Common causes of drooping eyebrows:
High cholesterol: Cholesterol and fat are mostly stored in parts of the body such as the abdomen, hips, buttocks, etc., but a small amount of them are also stored in areas of the face, including under the eyebrows, if you have high blood cholesterol and In other words, your diet contains too much cholesterol and harmful fats can cause eyebrow hair loss. Excess fat accumulates in the eyebrows to reduce blood flow to the roots of the eyebrows and make them fall out.
It is recommended to limit the consumption of foods high in cholesterol and harmful fats such as sauces, red meat, egg yolks, solid oils, cream, butter, etc. and instead eat foods containing omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Increase such as olive, coconut and fish oils.
You can eat 2 to 3 servings of fish a week, and if you do not want to eat it, take 3-4 tablets of fish oil per week, which is also called omega-3 supplement.
Lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) and raising good cholesterol (HDL) not only helps keep hair healthy but also reduces the risk of heart problems. Another effective way to reduce bad cholesterol is exercise, try to do at least 3 to 4 sessions a week and each session for 30 minutes of light exercise such as walking.
Thyroid problems: Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can both cause eyebrows to fall out, but often the role of hypothyroidism is more colorful, reasons such as iodine deficiency, selenium and other nutrients can contribute to thyroid problems. .
Stress: Stress in any form, whether physical or mental, can lead to hair loss and even eyebrows. Stress depletes some of the vitamins and minerals in the body, such as zinc, magnesium, vitamins C, B1, B5, and B6, all of which are essential for healthy hair and skin.
Deficiency of vitamins and minerals: Deficiency of zinc, magnesium, calcium, manganese and vitamins A, D, E, folic acid, biotin, B1, B6 and B12 are other effective factors in increasing eyebrow loss. Today, due to soil erosion and reduced food quality, nutrient deficiencies are observed in most people. In a 2014 study conducted by Medical Plus Medical Group in the United States on 2850 people, more than 75% of these were observed. People are deficient in zinc and magnesium. Interestingly, dietary supplements are common among Americans, but many Americans are still deficient in these elements.
Deficiency of other nutrients: Protein and omega-3 fatty acids are nutrients for skin and hair health. Deficiency of protein and omega-3 fatty acids is observed in many people. One of the reasons is the lack of enough fish and other aquatic products in our Iranian diet. Fish and other aquatic products such as shrimp are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins D and A, and the elements zinc and selenium. It is recommended to eat fish 2 times a week.
Sinus infections: Chronic sinus infections are also a common cause of drooping eyelashes and eyebrows.
Problems with the immune system: In some people, the immune system mistakenly attacks the roots of the eyebrows and causes them to fall out, although this is seen in those who lose a large part of their eyebrows in a short time. And if you are one of those people who experience a slight drooping of the eyebrows is unlikely to include you.
Inflammation: People with inflammatory diseases such as eczema, skin allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, MS, etc. are more prone to hair loss and even eyebrows than others.
Side effects of some medicines: Here are some of them:
Antihypertensive drugs: propranolol, atenolol, captopril, clonidine, etc.
Antidepressants: Prozac, lithium, imipramine, etc.
Anticonvulsant drugs: phenytoin, phenobarbital, valproic acid, etc.
And drugs used in chemotherapy.
Cosmetics: The use of unreliable and standard cosmetics causes damage to the skin, and if they remain on the skin for a long time, it absorbs the roots of the eyebrows and causes them to fall out.
Age: As a general rule, with increasing age and body wear and tear, the density of hair on the head and eyebrows decreases in both women and men.
Hormonal changes: Hormonal changes during pregnancy and lactation, as well as an increase in testosterone and cortisol are other common hormonal disorders in women that cause drooping eyebrows.
In some men, an increase in the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in addition to hair loss also causes eyebrows to fall. Other symptoms of an increase in DHT include an increase in excess body hair such as hair on the shoulders, ears and rapid growth of nose hair.
Excess iron: Unfortunately, many women mistakenly believe that they are iron deficient due to menstruation and take iron supplements without checking, which in most cases they do not need. Iron is a metal that is very dangerous if consumed in excess and the body has no natural way to get rid of it. Excess iron damages the body in various ways and is an important factor in the occurrence of many diseases such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, hair loss and so on. Read the article on iron supplementation for more information.
Climate change: In some cases, with the change of season or place of residence to another city or country due to climate change, people may experience temporary loss of eyebrows and hair if eyebrows or hair loss If the head lasts for more than 2 months, then it is necessary to see a doctor for treatment.

Ways to strengthen eyebrows:
Below I write tips and methods to strengthen the eyebrows, it is worth mentioning that if the problem of drooping your eyebrows is serious, you should see a doctor and the following items are only to strengthen the eyebrows.
Tip 1: Eyebrow massage is not an interesting idea. Unlike the hair on the scalp, the root of the eyebrow is very loose and the eyebrows may be easily pulled out during the massage and shed along the root.
Tip 2: Do not use Minoxidil solution for eyebrows, Minoxidil solution, whether 2% or 5%, is suitable for the scalp and may cause allergies and facial skin.
Rosemary Essential Oil: This oil, when absorbed through the skin through the hair follicles, increases blood flow and strengthens the hair follicles and stimulates new hair growth. You can apply a small amount of rosemary oil 3 to 4 times a week with the tip. Rub your fingers on the eyebrows and spread gently. Leave the rosemary oil on the skin for a few hours (at least two hours) and then rinse.
Coconut oil: One of the most beneficial oils available for skin and hair health, coconut oil contains vitamin E, omega 6 unsaturated fatty acids and gamma linolenic acid. Gamma linolenic acid has anti-inflammatory properties and moisturizes the skin. Coconut oil also strengthens the eyebrows and increases the thickness of the eyebrow hairs. You can use it like rosemary oil.
Note: Excessive consumption of these oils does not cause better results, but closes the pores of the skin, which is a factor in increasing hair loss, so you should not use vegetable oils more than 3 to 4 times a week to strengthen eyebrows.
